In a recent article, I discussed some of the support that we provide to our clients at the Small Business Center. We are pleased to support current and prospective business owners in a variety of ways. Many of our clients are exploring the idea of starting a business while others have committed to do so; however, they are not sure where to begin. Some of our clients are already in business and ask for our support to enhance their success. In all cases, we have the knowledge and expertise to point them in the right direction.

This month, I am happy to share some of my reflections about Venture Café. WinstonSalem is pleased to be the fifth city in the world to be the home of Venture Café. I am pleased to have participated in the launch event on last month at Inmar. The purpose of Venture Café is to “broaden, connect, and support the innovation community” which is a great complement to our purpose at the Small Business Center to increase business success. I first learned about Venture Café about a year ago and immediately thought that it would help position our community as a leader in entrepreneurship.

Each Thursday afternoon, you are invited to Venture Café where you can meet with business mentors, attend panel discussions and presentations, view demonstrations, meet new people and much more. People can visit information tables, explore collaboration opportunities, as well as enjoy food and drinks.

The initial meeting included a press conference featuring presidents and chancellors from local colleges and universities. In conjunction with the Entrepreneurial Committee of the WinstonSalem Alliance, they announced their institutions’ commitment to entrepreneurship which includes financial grant programs. We invite you to visit to learn more about Venture Café and determine how it can help you and your business. We would love for you to join us on an upcoming Thursday.
